I am sure many of you already know of the beautiful being people call Amma or Ammachi. For those that don’t I wanted to share a recent experience I had with this divine being. Please check her site and info on her. To quickly give some background, Amma is well-known for travelling the globe hugging and blessing any and all who come to her. It is reported that she has hugged and blessed 27 million people over the last 3 decades and as many as 50,000 people in one sitting.
Amma was just here in Chicago last weekend (July 5-6, 2008). A friend of mine was kind enough to ask me for the 5th or 6th time to see her. I did.
I must say I was totally blown away. Her message is completely about love and compassion. You go and get a free token to stand in line (for order and harmony sake) to see her. No one is asked anything about their backgrounds. No resumes needed. It doesn’t matter if you are a murderer, christian, muslim or carpenter. She greets all with a bright transcendental smile and then proceeds to hug and bless each individual as if they were Krishna. I was totally floored by such a display of compassion. All are excepted…she is not interested in your background…she sees everyone as divine…whoa! I had never seen such compassion.
When I went to receive my hug and blessing I waited in line like everyone else. As we got closer we were given instructions on how to greet her. I was on my knees and was told to bend at the waist and let her embrace me. I closed my eyes and she caressed me. I felt like I had dipped my head in the ocean. She blessed me in her native tongue and then I was helped up. I think most people feel slightly dizzy upon standing. I was no different. I am so thankful for such an experience. Those mere moments taught me so much.
